The exploration of space, whether physically or metaphorically, is a

common focus in my practice. My aim is to trigger sensations through

creating experiences, which the viewer can either observe or interact with,

on conscious or subconscious levels. Hidden landscapes and the

architectural environment are a core influence of these ideals, allowing for a

journey of development and adaptation to be explored.

Materials bring weight and substance; they allow me to create a presence

which demands attention. In this respect, the viewer's senses are triggered

- textural qualities merge into organic forms, which adapt to an environment

developing its own form of existence; whilst colour plays on the stimulus of

attraction and intrigue, binding materials responsively to correspond with

the nature of the site. Colour is used as a deceptive tool, allowing for

control over perception; it creates atmosphere and character, enhancing

qualities to compliment the history of a material.

The properties of paint are manipulated to bring a material to life, acting as a

manifested persona of order and purpose. It acts as a catalyst for past and

present existence within the context of the material in question, enhancing

its abilities to step into two and three-dimensional realms at will.  Paint is

used in a way not too different from that of a painter - layers are built and

worked up to a point where it either retreats into its surface, or it appears to

expand out of it.

Recent sculptural work explores the way we move and interact within a

given space, playing on senses and feeling. At times their access is

restricted, hibernating within restricted areas of a space, only allowing for

the eye to wander and the mind to explore; whilst others expose their

structural framework for the viewer to interact freely, with space itself

becoming abstracted into mere bodily movements.
